This works pretty well, but a few tricks for young players:
1. Make sure the cover is very sturdy corrugated cardboard. Or even thin wood.
2. Buy some decent glue from a craft shop. Clag doesn't cut it.
3. Make sure the fabric bound to the spine of the pages is at least 5cm out from the edge.
4. Bind the pages with thread.
