The World Rally Championship is the sport’s highest level event, and during the past 2 years, Chinese riders have made amazing progress, catching up and overtaking their peers from other nations. Upon reaching the beach next to the race track, I discovered the local economy there is totally backward, as the price of a large mansion with a swimming pool is similar to what you would pay in Shanghai for a 100sqm apartment. The life of the locals there is extremely harsh, from the airport to the hotel we didn’t see a single speeding BMW or Audi, and the local government is so poor it can’t even afford building toll gates.
